Made of cork - a 100 % natural, recyclable, and reusable material – and produced by Amorim, the world leader of the cork industry, Corkeen is a sustainable, safe, and fully accessible solution for the construction of fall protection systems for playgrounds.

This recently launched solution has been installed in over 200 floors in Europe, confirming market recognition of this solution that also stands out due to its reduced impact on the environment.

Playing is about exploring the world. Growing up. Building the future. All children deserve to play in safe, healthy outdoor spaces, in harmony with nature. Corkeen is an innovative solution produced from cork, a 100 % natural, recyclable and renewable raw material, to create retained fall systems for playgrounds.

Developed and produced by Amorim, the world leader of the cork industry, Corkeen is an eco-friendly alternative to existing accessible solutions that are composed entirely of materials of synthetic origin. Corkeen combines safety credentials, accessibility and sustainability.

  • The Corkeen system has been developed in accordance with circular economy principles. According to a recent Environmental Footprint study, conducted by EY, the Corkeen system has a negative carbon balance of -102kg CO2 eq/m2. This means that the Corkeen system promotes carbon sequestration via the cork oak forest that exceeds the CO2 emissions from its production.

  • This innovative and revolutionary surfacing system for playgrounds also complies with EN1176 and EN1177 standards and has been designed so that all children can play safely. Corkeen does not contain any toxic or chemical substances, such as heavy metals, EDCs, TVOCs, formaldehyde, or PAHs, which means that it is a completely safe system for children. It is also environmentally friendly, since it does not contain rubber or plastic granules.

Corkeen presents a significantly higher drainage capacity compared to solutions composed of rubber (EPDM and/or SBR) materials, that are traditionally used in safety surfacing solutions. Given cork’s natural features, Corkeen also has a great capacity for thermal insulation, permitting lower temperature accumulation on its surface.

Inclusion is also a special feature of this revolutionary system: the Corkeen system guarantees total accessibility, even for children and parents with reduced mobility, facilitating playtime and happiness without any limits.

Installation is carried out in situ, which makes it possible to implement even the most complex landscape modelling.
